What:
Memories Are Made Here (Family-Friendly Christmas Event)
Where: Manchester Craft and Design Centre, Manchester
When: Saturday
Cost: FREE
The Craft and Design Centre is one of those hidden gems you sometimes discover in cities you live in. I lived in Manchester for years without knowing it was there. It’s a hive of independent stores, each run by designers and creators making their own merchandise, often inside the stores themselves. This Saturday the centre is holding a big Christmas event so you can grab gifts for your loved ones and snarfle down a FREE MINCE PIE, YOU HEARD ME, THIS IS NOT A DRILL.

What: Harry Benson: Seeing America
Where: The Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh
When: All weekend (ends 3 December)
Cost: FREE
Now that America is over, why not go and have a look at some of its best bits, as captured by Glaswegian photographer Harry Benson? Taking pictures of America since the 60s, this exhibition features portraits of all the US Presidents since Eisenhower; you can marvel at how suddenly competent Reagan and Bush look in light of recent events.

What: Hamleys Christmas Toy Parade
Where: Regent Street, London
When: Sunday
Cost: FREE
Everybody knows the true meaning of Xmas is COMMERCE, so celebrate the only honest way by watching giant toys trundle down the street. All the kids’ favourites will be in the parade, from Transformers and Sonic the Hedgehog to Danger Mouse and the Ghostbusters. Wait, what year is it? Special appearance from Basil Brush. I’m imagining the evening will turn into the parade scene from Batman, so if you start to hear Prince, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE. I’m sure it’ll all be fine though.

What:
Star Wars Identities Exhibition
Where: O2, London
When: All weekend (ends 3 September 2017)
Cost: Various
This new Star Wars exhibition focuses on the characters of the giant Disney franchise, but I reckon there will still be plenty of spaceships and lightsabers to get a look at. Costumes, models, props and all that good stuff on display and interactive bits and pieces, including the chance to create your own Star Wars character.

star trek cast
What:
Star Trek: The Exhibition
Where: Blackpool Promenade, Blackpool
When: All weekend (ends 16 April 2017)
Cost: Various
If you can’t stand Star Wars, perhaps you prefer a bit of Star Trek? This exhibition will give you a look at hundreds of items from the history of the show, covering the 60s original, the Next Generation, that cartoon they did, all the films and the other three spin offs that nobody really cared for, Voyager and all that shit. Plus when you’re done with the exhibit, the Blackpool Illuminations are on.
