Volcano erupting
What:
Volcano Day
Where: Holyrood Park, Edinburgh
When: Saturday
Cost: FREE
Impossible to resist something called Volcano Day, I don’t care how old you are. I think this is technically directed at kids but they’ll need adults to accompany them so that’s a solid enough excuse. Build your own volcano, make a chocolate Earth (and then eat it), play guess the rock and yes, that is a real thing. I’m imagining a silhouette of the wrestler The Rock in among actual rocks. Fingers crossed I’m right.

earphones
What:
Sonophilia Sound Installations, part of Sonophilia Festival
Where: Various places in Lincoln
When: All weekend
Cost: Various
Lincoln’s festival of sound is upon us, with a variety of ticketed events across the city BUT ALSO some free installations dotted around town. Follow the Headphone Installation Trail, check out Reading the Water at Lincoln’s High Bridge or discover some Silent Spaces as provided by artist Janis Bowley.
While you’re there, make sure to stop off at The Ice Cream Parlour just up Steep Hill; it’s amazing. I’m partial to their ginger chocolate chip and their liquorice. I was an ice-creamer rather than a drinker while at university there.
