The Weekend’s Top 5

Seriously, it’s nearly the weekend already? If it’s snuck up on you too, here’s Hannah Dolan with some ideas on how you can fill it.

vintage by the sea
What: Vintage By The Sea
Where: The Midland Hotel, Morecambe
When: Saturday and Sunday
Cost: FREE
What better place to hold a vintage fair than a place that used to be popular? You can properly pretend to be in the past here. Loads of WWII-themed stuff at this one, as though that’s something to get nostalgic about. Remember the Nazis and getting bombed a lot? Happier days.

pink-macaroons
What: Cupcake and Macaroon Tour of London
Where: Meet outside M&S opposite Covent Garden Station, 12pm
When: Saturday and Sunday (ends 30 October)
Cost: £45 (2-4-1 tickets here, shhhh)
A fancy sounding pudding tour. Try and resist the urge to use a butter knife to strong-arm people to give you more sugary goods. The tour meets outside Marks & Spencer because that’s the landmark they think people who fucking love cakes will know.

chickens outdoors
What: Woodland Craft Activity Day
Where: Sevenoaks, Kent
When: Sunday
Cost: FREE
If you’re not pining for the days of THE WAR then maybe you’re pining for the days when people had jobs? Learn to make charcoal, mallets or wattle and daub (whatever that is) and enjoy the folk music of the promised country fayre atmosphere. To me, country fayre suggests a Wicker Man-style folk horror, but I can’t guarantee that.

mouse house
What: Mouse House
Where: Great North Museum: Hancock, Newcastle upon Tyne
When: All weekend
Cost: FREE
The Mouse House is a gallery within the Great North Museum: Hancock designed specifically for under-fives. The Great North Mouse himself is on hand to tell stories in the morning and the afternoon is devoted to craft activities. I’ve mostly included it here because I like saying Mouse House out loud. MOUSE HOUSE.

letterpress blocks
What: Font Sunday
Where: Wherever you are! (As long as you have decent signal)
When: Sunday (and every Sunday)
Cost: FREE
Here’s an exhibition you can visit from your sofa. Every Sunday, The Design Museum hosts a typography-themed exhibit on Twitter using the hashtag #FontSunday: follow along and join in without even having to brush your teeth or put pants on. Previous weeks’ sessions can be found on Pinterest using the same hashtag.

Hannah Dolan is getting better at making eye contact but only just. She likes biscuits and knitwear, even in summer, and quietly sings to herself if she forgets where she is.
