What was the first thing you wanted to be? Actress.
When did you know you wanted to be what you are now? Since I realised how powerful talking things through with another human being can be.
What’s your strongest memory from school/education? Not being able to understand why I was ‘lucky’ to be at boarding school.
When you’re not working, what else do you like to do? Watch TV, walk along the seafront, eat delicious food, make soup, watch more TV.
What has been your proudest creative moment to date? Three novels and two Edinburgh one-woman shows.
What would you like to erase from your past? Being famous.
What brings you the most joy? Friday night, on the sofa, with pizza, TV and my son.
What makes you angry? Selfish parking.
Professionally, who has been your biggest inspiration? Joanna Lumley has managed to make the being posh thing work for her, but she’s one of the very few.
Have you ever met someone who made you go weak at the knees? No, but if I met Deacon from Nashville I might be just a little bit giggly.
What advice would you give a woman who wants a career like yours? Keep on keeping on.
How do you define success? Love.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever had? Nothing pays off like perseverance

Where did you go on your favourite holiday? India.
Who can’t you live without? Nobody, this is an unhealthy position to be in!
What can’t you live without? Baked beans.
What do you consider your greatest achievement? Being a single parent on benefits to a special needs child and surviving.
Who is your favourite person? Sarah Millican, for private reasons, but we’re not having an affair or anything.
Who’s your favourite animal? Dogs. All dogs. Any dogs.
