New(ish) mum Samantha Dooey-Miles is charting her life in doodles. This week, it’s all about the love.

DoodlebugAs someone who has spent a year watching an unhealthy amount of Jeremy Kyle, I know there’s nothing creepier than when someone randomly barks they love their kids in a public arena.

That you love your kids should go without saying, shouldn’t it? So I probably need to explain this doodle because I appear to be acting like a creep on the internet.

When I was pregnant, the tales women who I knew with children told me all had a common theme. It wouldn’t matter how much they hated their pregnancy or how amazing a birth experience they had, they all warned me how overwhelmed with love I’d be once the baby was in my arms.

Then Iona arrived and I loved her, but I remained a normal amount of whelmed.

Over the course of a year, little things have made my heart swell larger, made me pause and think, “Is this what those women were telling me about?” This doodle is the moment I was finally overwhelmed.
