Slap dash: Look good, feel good…Who’s got time for that?

When time is not on your side, makeup artist Heather B has a collection of cosmetic corner-cuts she swears by.

I don’t know about you, but spare time just eludes me. The last thing I want to do every morning is spend hours poring over the mirror.
Here are a few tips, which I reckon will help you look and feel fantastic, fast.

Lightning Lippy
Never. Ever. Underestimate the power of a good lipstick. Red especially is effortlessly cool/glam/polished/rocky (delete as appropriate) even without a scrap of other makeup on. Confidently apply straight from the bullet for a fully empowering experience. My current faves are:

MAC Lipstick £15.50 Mac, in Ruby Woo (A matt, bluish red that suits most skin tones) and Lady Danger (An orangey red). www.maccosmetics.co.uk

Estee Lauder, Pure Colour Lipstick £24. Gorgeous, high intensity colours with a moisturising complex to keep lips hydrated. www.esteelauder.co.uk/LipstickEnvy

Bourjois, Rouge Edition Velvet £8.99. Goes on like a soft velvety cream and results in a bold, matte, long lasting finish. www.bourjois.co.uk

Rapid Radiance
Let’s face it. Most of us burn the candle at both ends, and being run down doesn’t lend itself to a healthy cherub-like face.
For an instant pick me up that gives the illusion of a full night’s sleep, blend a highlighter along the tops of your cheekbones, down the bridge of your nose, across the cupids bow, along the brow bone and most importantly, dot in the inner corner of your eyes. Et voila.

Try NARS Multiple Stick £30 in Copacabana as it’s easy to apply on the go and handily handbag sized.
Add a nice peachy colour like NARS Orgasm (Oo-er missus) onto the apples of your cheeks for a modern day ‘in a jiffy’ miracle. www.narscosmetics.co.uk

Tactical Tinting
Every four to six weeks get your eyelashes and eyebrows tinted. This is not so much of a quick everyday fix but more of a playing-the-long-game approach.
Your mascara and eyebrow pencil can sit on the bench until you need some extra va va voom. Just 15-30mins once every four weeks, compared with five mins every morning equals at a saving of at least two-and-a-half hours a month. Just think of what you could do with that. Suggestions on a postcard.

Brisk BB Cream
A quick solution to your morning skin prep. The idea is that they act much like a tinted moisturiser, but go one step further by regenerating, hydrating and protecting the skin. If in a huge rush, you can skip moisturiser, primer, and foundation and just apply this with fingertips, for a bright, even tone and healthy glow with concealed pores.
Here are a few that have impressed me:

Chanel, Les Beiges, All-In-One Healthy Glow Fluid £34. It doesn’t have ‘BB’ in the title buts acts very much in the same way. It’s easy to apply, feels great and smells divine. www.chanel.com/makeup

Shiseido, Perfect Hydrating BB Cream SPF 30 £28.50. Gives a healthy glow, feels light and blends like a dream. www.shiseido.com

Garnier, Miracle Skin Perfector, Daily All-In-One B.B. Blemish Balm Cream £9.99. A good all in one product at a price that won’t break the bank. www.garnier.co.uk/Beauty

Hasty Hair
Everyone should have a couple of ‘go to’ foolproof hairstyles which can just be thrown up or jushed when time is of the essence.
Spray Dry Shampoo into the roots then rub in to eliminate the appearance of grease and/or add volume, then use hairspray to style and keep in place. Those polished career women with four kids who still manage to get to the gym three days a week, you know, the ones that have all their shit together? They use hairspray. Fact.

Batiste, Dry Shampoo 200ml £1.99. www.batistehair.co.uk

L’Oreal, Elnett Satin Hairspray 75ml Handbag sized £2.50. www.loreal-paris.co.uk

Hey Presto Perfume
A quick spritz of your fave perfume before you head out the door can be just the boost you need. You may also want to carry a purse-sized spray in your arsenal that can be dispensed at will.

Finally, to look good instantly with no effort involved, smile! ‘Because you’re worth it’ *hangs head in shame*
Chop-chop, don’t you have to be somewhere?
